The Ancient Roman Cities: Pompeii & Herculaneum
Description
Discover two of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the world on a private day trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum.
In the morning, depart from your hotel with your personal driver and head to Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited Roman site in Italy after the Colosseum in Rome. Upon arrival, meet your licensed tour guide on site and begin exploring this ancient city, which was buried under volcanic ash and debris during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
Walk along the original Roman streets and learn how people lived here almost 2,000 years ago. Admire the remains of shops, houses, baths, squares and even brothels, and see the famous plaster casts of some of the victims, a powerful reminder of the force of the eruption. As you move through the ruins, your guide will bring Pompeii’s history to life with engaging explanations and stories.
After your guided tour of Pompeii, continue to Herculaneum, your second ancient city of the day. According to legend, this town was founded by Hercules himself. Smaller and more compact than Pompeii, Herculaneum is incredibly well preserved: in many areas you can still see upper floors, wooden elements and vivid frescoes and mosaics. Here you will enjoy another guided visit, discovering houses, public buildings and everyday objects that have survived the centuries.
On the way back, stop at a local workshop to see how traditional cameos are made, learning about this ancient craft that is still practiced today along the Bay of Naples. At the end of the experience, your driver will take you back to your accommodation.
A perfect tour for history lovers and curious travelers who want to dive deep into the world of ancient Rome in just one day.
