Delhi to Khajuraho 3-Day Express Train Tour – Temples, Tiger Safari & Culture

Description
Day 1: Delhi to Khajuraho by Express Train – Arrival & Evening Temple Tour
Your journey begins in Delhi, where our driver will pick you up from your hotel or airport and transfer you comfortably to the railway station. Board the express train to Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage destination and one of the most celebrated temple towns in India.
On arrival at Khajuraho, you will be greeted by our local representative and assisted with hotel check-in. After freshening up and relaxing, begin your exploration of Khajuraho in the evening with a guided tour of the Western Group of Temples.
This complex houses the most famous temples of Khajuraho, built by the Chandela dynasty between the 9th and 12th centuries. Admire the stunning Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, with its towering shikhara and over 800 masterfully carved sculptures. Visit Lakshmana Temple, which showcases intricate depictions of divine figures, warriors, and celestial dancers, and Devi Jagadambi Temple, known for its beautifully detailed carvings of deities and apsaras.
These temples are celebrated globally not only for their sensuous art and carvings, but also for their deep symbolism of spirituality, mythology, and daily life, making them masterpieces of Indian architecture.
As the sun sets, the sandstone temples glow in golden hues, creating a magical atmosphere. Afterward, return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Khajuraho.
Day 2: Panna National Park Safari & Khajuraho Temple Exploration
Rise early for an adventurous excursion to Panna National Park, located just an hour from Khajuraho. Spread across plateaus and gorges along the Ken River, the park is a celebrated tiger reserve and a haven for wildlife lovers.
During your jungle safari, enjoy thrilling chances to spot tigers, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, antelopes, sloth bears, and over 200 bird species in their natural habitat. The park’s landscapes are breathtaking, with crystal-clear streams, waterfalls, and forested valleys, offering plenty of photographic opportunities. Panna is also known for its crocodile-filled riverbeds, adding to the wild charm of the experience.
Return to Khajuraho by late morning for breakfast, and continue your heritage exploration with visits to the Eastern and Southern Group of Temples.
Highlights include:
- Parsvanatha Jain Temple (Eastern Group) – The largest Jain temple in Khajuraho, admired for its delicate carvings of dancers, celestial beings, and floral patterns.
- Adinath Temple – A shrine with a unique mix of Jain and Hindu motifs, reflecting the region’s cultural harmony.
- Duladeo Temple (Southern Group) – Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is noted for its graceful sculptures of apsaras (celestial maidens) and musicians.
- Chaturbhuj Temple – Famous for housing a grand 9-foot high idol of Lord Vishnu.
In the evening, immerse yourself in the Sound & Light Show at the Western Group of Temples. Narrated against the backdrop of illuminated monuments, the show tells the captivating story of the Chandela kings, the creation of Khajuraho, and the cultural significance of its temples, accompanied by music and special lighting effects.
Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Khajuraho.
