Private Oyster Farm tour & tasting. Mayo. Guided

Description
Immerse yourself in the authentic tradition of Irish aquaculture with our fascinating oyster farm tour, set on the stunning shores of Clew Bay in County Mayo. Guided by Padraic, a passionate oyster farmer with over 30 years of expertise, you'll discover the secrets of sustainable oyster cultivation, from nurturing seed to harvesting Grade A oysters.
Padraic farms both the Rock oyster (crassostrea gigas), which has an excellent meat content, having a balance of both a sweet and tender taste, as well as the Native oyster (Ostrea edulis), with its smooth, buttery rich flavour - a firm favourite with gourmet chefs and foodies alike. Come taste for yourself!
Enjoy a hands-on visit along the picturesque foreshore of a family-run farm, where you can hand-pick your own oysters straight from the trestles. Learn the art of oyster shucking and cooking, and indulge in a memorable oyster tasting and pairing session, savoring six fresh or grilled oysters. This friendly and engaging experience is perfect for families, couples, small groups, and seafood enthusiasts eager to connect with local heritage and Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.
We also have a visitor centre and cafe onsite for hot & cold beverages, wine & locally brewed Mescan beer, as well as light meals and delicious seafood dishes. Extra Oysters, steamed mussels, seafood chowder and smoked salmon can also be purchased.
