Stingless Bee Tour: Sacred Honey and Ancestral Medicine

Description
Just 20 minutes from the beautiful town of La Fortuna de San Carlos, embraced by the majesty of the Arenal Volcano and surrounded by lush countryside nature, our meliponary awaits you with an authentic educational experience. You will discover fascinating facts about native stingless bees and taste 100% Costa Rican tropical honeys right at the base of the hives. Our pollinator conservation project hosts around 45 colonies of native stingless bees, where we provide shelter and food for the bees and other pollinators essential for the preservation of the planet.
Honey is synonymous with “divinity & fertility” and was used in many ancestral ceremonies by the Mayans and the native peoples of Costa Rica as part of their traditional medicine. On the other hand, bees are considered the “guardians of life.” The ancient wisdom of these organisms and their relationship with plants continues to sustain 75% of the pollination of the grains that humans consume as food worldwide. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO, 2023): “Nearly 75% of global crops producing fruits or seeds for human consumption depend, at least in part, on pollinators.”
