  • Comfortable shoes: Sturdy closed-toe shoes are required for walking on uneven terrain within the park.

Important Volcanic Safety Information:The dynamic environment of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park may present unique conditions. Airborne 'Pele's hair' (fine, glass-like fibers) or volcanic ash can sometimes be present, which may cause skin and eye irritation. For your protection, we strongly recommend:

  • Long-sleeved top or jacket
  • A hat (to protect hair and scalp)
