Jurmo is an island and a village in the municipality of Pargas in the outer islands of thearchipelago, directly south of the island Korpo and 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) northeast of theisland Utö.
The island has had its own church since 1846 and a bird observatory. The island of Jurmowas formed during the ice age and, as an island surrounded by large amounts of gravel. Jurmo has been inhabited since the Middle Ages. The people of Jurmo made their livingfrom fishing until the 1970s, but nowdays the main income comes from tourism. The islandi s famous for its guest marina with around 80 berths and a summer café/kiosk.
Utö island is the southernmost year-round inhabited island in Finland. The island has a lighthouse which is the oldest lighthouse in Finland, built 1814. Island has also a small guestharbour, a shop, post office and a hotel. The island is also known from the marine weatherobservations that began in1881.
To the south of the island Björkö lies a natural harbour of Byviken, which is the mostpopular natural harbour in the southern archipelago. Next to the harbour is a deep, clear-water inland lake, Insjön, which has a area of 10.5 hectares. The lake was formed about 250 years ago when the land rose. Björkö islandi s particularlycknown for this rarity.
Café Björkö is a cute, small summer café in the heart of the archipelago, in the island of Björkö. At Café Björkö you can feel the authentic atmosphere of the old days and thearchipelago culture. The café always offers fresh pot coffee in porcelain cups, not tomention homemade pastries. Cold refreshments and ice cream are also delicious on a summer day, and they are wonderful to enjoy in the café´s garden under the Cherry trees.
