We’ll kick things off with a visit to the world-famous Alkmaar Cheese Market, a tradition dating back to 1365. Watch the cheese carriers in action, learn the secrets of cheese judging, and find out what happens when someone drops a wheel (spoiler: no swearing allowed — they shout “Owl!” instead).
After the market, we’ll explore Alkmaar’s historic center, from medieval canals and hidden courtyards to legendary spots like the House with the Cannonball, the old Weigh House, and the Windmill of Piet. Hear all about Alkmaar’s heroic stand during the Spanish siege in 1573, where victory began for the Dutch!
