The Gilded Age Art and Architecture Tour

Description

Dive into the city’s European aesthetic exploring some of the most fascinating buildings and works of art of Argentina’s Gilded Age. In this tour, we will approach how Buenos Aires ended up having the “nickname of the Paris of South America” and why that’s a controversial name. We will start at the Retiro area where we’ll talk about the Generation of the 80s and how it brought about a francophile era to the country. After checking out two manors and a dramatic church, we will have a short coffee break at the largest manor still standing from this era. Then, we’re off to the Museum of Fine Arts where we’ll enjoy both European art and the influence of these artists on Argentina’s production.

Then, we’re off to explore Avenida de Mayo with its emblematic buildings: the Barolo Palace, the National Congress and Confiteria del Molino. We will do a little extra trekking to find one of the rarest gems of Buenos Aires: a catalan modernist and an art nouveau masterpieces in Balvanera.

Before heading back to the hotel, we will stop by the Colon Theatre so you can enjoy a 45’ visit inside the most emblematic architectural piece of the city.

If a museum or gallery is closed, we will visit another attraction not listed on this tour.
