Private Dynjandi Waterfall & Farm Tour: Pickup from Ísafjörður
Discover the untamed beauty and rich cultural history of Iceland’s remote Westfjords on this immersive 5-hour private tour from Ísafjörður. Perfect for cruise visitors or anyone seeking a more authentic Icelandic experience, this tour combines awe-inspiring natural sights with local charm and tradition.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive out of Ísafjörður, weaving through towering mountains, narrow fjords, and dramatic underground tunnels. The Westfjords’ rugged terrain is unlike anywhere else in the country, and the views along the route are truly unforgettable.
The highlight of the tour is the majestic Dynjandi Waterfall, often considered the crown jewel of the Westfjords. This dramatic cascade is actually a series of seven waterfalls, fanning out gracefully over a mountainside like a bridal veil. Whether you choose to walk up the gentle trail to the base or admire its grandeur from below, Dynjandi offers a moment of serenity and awe in nature’s embrace.
On your return journey, you’ll step into Icelandic history at the village of Hrafnseyri, birthplace of Jón Sigurðsson — the leader of Iceland’s 19th-century independence movement. Here, you’ll enjoy a break at a cozy local café, where freshly brewed coffee and traditional Icelandic pastries await. There’s also time to explore the turf-roofed houses, visit the quaint village church, or explore the Jón Sigurðsson Museum for a deeper dive into Iceland’s path to sovereignty.
The tour continues to Auðkúla Farm, a peaceful spot nestled by the fjord and home to a colony of Eider ducks during the nesting season. If you're lucky, you may even spot the rare and striking King Eider, a prized sight for birdwatchers. In the summer, you may also catch glimpses of humpback whales playing in the nearby waters, so keep your camera ready.
If weather and road conditions permit, we’ll return via the highland pass Hrafnseyrarheiði or Álftamýrarheiði — mountain routes that are only accessible in the summer months and offer sweeping views over the Westfjords. If not, we’ll retrace our journey back through the mountain tunnels.
This tour is a beautiful balance of nature, culture, and local hospitality, giving you a taste of Iceland few travelers ever experience.
