Lisbon: 1 Day Tour in Alentejo (Évora and Montemor)

Description
On this one-day tour, we depart from Lisbon towards Montemor-o-Novo Castle, a medieval structure that dominates the Alentejo landscape. While exploring the castle, we will discover its historical importance and appreciate the magnificent views over the hills and fields of the region. This initial stop allows a journey through time, where one can imagine the lives of the inhabitants and knights who passed through.
Next, we will visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Visitation, located on a hill with breathtaking views. This small church is a peaceful place, cherished by the local population, with a simple decoration typical of the Alentejo region. The tiles covering its interior walls are of great beauty and reflect the atmosphere of devotion and religious tradition of the region.
In Montemor-o-Novo, we will also visit the Plansel winery, where we will have a fascinating insight into the production process of the famous Alentejo wines. Although a wine tasting is not included, the guided tour of the winery offers an opportunity to learn about winemaking techniques, the aging process, and the importance of the Alentejo terroir in the quality of the wines. This location is an excellent way to understand how viticulture is part of the identity of the Alentejo.
For lunch, the group will be welcomed at A Ribeira restaurant, famous for the unique tradition of "singing the menu." Here, the menu is presented in an original way, with the staff singing the list of available dishes, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The menu includes typical dishes of Alentejo cuisine, such as migas à alentejana, roasted lamb, among others. This lunch provides an unforgettable experience and an authentic taste of local gastronomy.
After lunch, the tour continues in Évora, a historic city with a vast cultural heritage. The first stop is at the Chapel of Bones, a unique and intriguing chapel covered with human bones and skulls. This singular construction makes us reflect on the transience of life and is one of the most visited sites in the city. Then, we walk to the Temple of Diana, an impressive Roman temple that testifies to Évora's importance in Roman times. Next to it, Giraldo Square, the heart of the city, offers a perfect setting for a break and to explore some local craft shops, where you can find typical souvenirs of the Alentejo.
After a day filled with culture, history, and gastronomy, we return to Lisbon, carrying in our memories the complete experience of the Alentejo. This tour is ideal for those who wish to explore the charming landscapes, rich history, and genuine hospitality of this iconic region of Portugal.
