This tour is a cinematic journey through the beautiful cities of Cortona and Arezzo, located in the Tuscany region. It takes participants to some of the most iconic settings from the movies “Under the Tuscan Sun” (2003) and “Life is Beautiful” (1997). Throughout the tour, you will have the opportunity to explore both the filming locations and the historical and cultural landmarks of these two charming cities.

1. Cortona - “Under the Tuscan Sun”

Cortona, a charming medieval town nestled in the hills of Tuscany, was one of the main locations in the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”, starring Diane Lane. In the film, the protagonist Frances buys an old villa, which becomes a central part of the story. The tour starts here:

a. Frances's House

The villa Frances buys in the movie is a true star. It is actually the Villa Bramasole, located in the hills near Cortona. The house is a real property known for its beauty and panoramic views. Although the house itself is not open to the public, visitors can see the entrance and facade of the villa while enjoying the typical Tuscan landscape.

b. Piazza della Repubblica

The main square of Cortona, Piazza della Repubblica, appears several times in the film. Here, Frances strolls and chats with some of the locals. The square is surrounded by medieval buildings and is a perfect spot for a coffee break, where you can soak in the charming atmosphere of the city.

c. Piazza Signorelli

Another significant square in Cortona is Piazza Signorelli, which also appears in the film. Surrounding the square, you will find some of Cortona's main historical landmarks, such as the Palazzo Comunale and the Church of San Francesco.

2. Arezzo - “Life is Beautiful”

Arezzo, another historic city in Tuscany, was the setting for several scenes in the movie “Life is Beautiful” by Roberto Benigni, which masterfully blends comedy and drama. Arezzo, with its medieval architecture and picturesque streets, served as the backdrop for the story of Guido and his family.

a. Piazza Grande

The main location in “Life is Beautiful” in Arezzo is Piazza Grande, one of the city's most famous squares. Many of the film's most emotional scenes take place here, including the scene of Guido trying to cheer up his son. The square has a unique charm, with Renaissance buildings and a perfect setting to reflect on the story.

b. Arezzo Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Donato)

Although not directly featured in the film, the imposing Arezzo Cathedral, the Cattedrale di San Donato, offers a stunning view of the city and is located near some of the landmarks seen in the scenes from Arezzo.

c. Old Market of Arezzo

In some scenes of “Life is Beautiful”, we see the city's old market. It still exists, and the Arezzo market offers an authentic experience with its stalls and typical regional products, as well as a medieval atmosphere that preserves the essence of the city in the film.

**** Free time for lunch in Arezzo.
