Tromsø full day adventure: Wild Moose Safari
Description
Join us for an unforgettable day in the heart of Northern Norway, where majestic wildlife and ancient traditions come together. This private guided experience is a rare collaboration between Up in the Arctic and Urhjertet, combining deep local knowledge, storytelling, and authentic encounters.
Departure with the Arctic Route from Prostneset bus terminal in Tromsø at 09.00 AM. You will arrive back in Tromsø city at 18.00 (6:00PM).
Your adventure begins with a wild moose safari, where your experienced guide will take you through pristine landscapes in search of the "King of the Forest." Along the way, you’ll gain insight into the land, the animals, and the unique local culture.
The journey continues with a special visit to a Sámi reindeer herd, where you’ll meet these iconic animals up close and learn about their importance in Sámi culture and everyday life. You will be able to go inside the fence and hand-feed the reindeer. This intimate encounter offers a meaningful perspective on traditions that have thrived in the North for generations.
The inland climate of the Bardufoss region provide calm and clear weather most of the winter season, which provides optimal conditions for Wild Moose Safari. The area has a very large population of moose, and in the winter season we experience endless encounters with these fascinating giants in the beautiful landscapes of the Målselv Valley - the Moose Valley.
We pick you up at Buktamoen where you arrive by bus, and transfer you to our office in Høgtun Kulturklynge where your guide will give a safety briefing and provide fascinating insights into the local culture, moose behavior, and the tradition of moose hunting. Afterwards we will go out on a wilderness safari together in car or bus to go looking for the King of the Arctic forests. We observe the moose in it's natural habitat and try our best not to disturb the moose. Along the way you will gain knowledge about the moose and the Arctic wilderness. We will take you out on a short hike or showshoe walk (10-15 minutes) to visit our Hunter's hut, located in the forest. If you're lucky you can observe a variety of other wild arctic animals on our way.
Please note that this experience is based around wildlife sightings, which are considered to be natural phenomena. We therefore can not guarantee any specific incidents or encounters with wildlife. However, we promise to do our best to maximize our chances and make your experience unforgettable.
