Lapis Museum: guided tour of the Sunken Decumanus

Description

The Water Museum is the focal point of the underground path of the Basilica of Pietrasanta.

This fantastic project of hydraulic engineering brings back to life the ancient Greco-Roman cisterns.

This Complex, located in the historic center of Naples, was built by the architect Cosimo Fanzago in the mid-17th century, on the remains of the Ancient Temple of the goddess Diana.

The Basilica of Pietrasanta, now LAPIS Museum, boasts an impressive underground path, a "Submerged Decumanus".

Today the cisterns have water flowing again, and have been enhanced by a lighting and technical system that emphasizes volumes and arches with lights and colors.

A significant step has been taken by installing the first archaeological elevator in the historic center, capable of connecting the crypt environment with the underground in just 20 seconds, descending to a depth of 35 meters and 2000 years back in time.
