Lapis Museum: guided tour of the Submerged Decumanus

Description

The Water Museum is the focal point of the underground path of the Basilica of Pietrasanta.

This fantastic project of hydraulic engineering puts back into operation the ancient Greco-Roman cisterns.

This Complex, located in the historic center of Naples, was built by the architect Cosimo Fanzago in the mid-seventeenth century, on the remains of the Ancient Temple of the goddess Diana.

The Basilica of Pietrasanta, now LAPIS Museum, boasts an evocative underground path, a "Submerged Decumanus".

Today the cisterns find water and trickles, and have been enhanced by a lighting-technical system that emphasizes volumes and arches with lights and colors.

A significant step was taken by installing the first archaeological elevator in the historic center, capable of connecting the crypt environment with the underground in just 20 seconds, descending to a depth of 35 meters and 2000 years back in time.
