3 Tours in 1: Cigar Factory, Altos de Chavon and Cave Expedition

Description

Once the customers have been picked up from their respective hotels in Punta Cana, we will reach a meeting point where we will have the opportunity to use the bathroom, have a coffee or just relax. The guide will welcome us all and once we are ready to go, we will get back on the bus to start our adventure.

During the bus trip the guide will give us a lesson on the history, culture and typical life in the Dominican Republic and will be happy to answer any questions we would like to ask him. We will pass the immense sugar cane plantations of the eastern region of the country and from the windows we will be able to appreciate the flora and fauna of this side of the Dominican Republic.

Our first destination will be the majestic cigar factory Tabacalera de Garcia, the world’s largest hand-made cigar factory, where over 2,000 skilled artisans craft some of the finest Dominican cigars!

Join us on a cigar factory tour that will immerse you in the Dominican heritage, craftsmanship, and passion that define Tabacalera de Garcia. This legendary factory is home to renowned brands like Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, H. Upmann and VegaFina, each a testament to the exceptional quality and artistry of Dominican cigars.

Explore the intricate process behind the creation of these world-class cigars and gain a deeper appreciation for the dedication that goes into every meticulously crafted smoke. Walk around the four main rolling galleries, each of which has roughly 240 cigarmakers. Every gallery bears the name of the major cigar brand rolled here. Tabacalera de García S.A.S. represents the best the Dominican Republic has to offer and at the end of the factory tour we will move directly to the cigar shop where you’ll have the chance to buy some of these amazing cigars.

After visiting the cigar shop, we will get on the bus again to reach our second destination: the charming village of Altos de Chavon. We will move towards the world famous resort Casa de Campo, a luxury retreat for the rich and famous like Jennifer Lopez, Julio Iglesias, Shakira, Bill Clinton who have home here, to explore this architectural marvel built 50 years ago as a replica of a 16th- century mediterranean village.

We will walk through its narrow medieval-style streets and will have time to visit all its main attractions, including the small church where Michael Jackson got married and the famous amphitheater, used for concerts by famous stars such as Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana and Ricky Martin among others.

Here in the village we will have lunch at a typical Dominican restaurant enjoying a wonderful view of the Chavon river. The menu is a-la-carte and you can choose one among 4 different starters and 4 different main courses (including rice and beans, pasta, fish fillet), plus dessert of the day.

After lunch you will have some free time to walk around the village and take some photos, before going back to the bus again and move to the last destination of the day: the gorgeous “Cueva de la Maravillas” or Cave of Wonders in English, considered  the most beautiful cave in the Dominican Republic. This cave is located in the San Pedro region, about half an hour away from Altos de Chavon.

Inside the Cueva de las Maravillas we will discover 2 attractions in one: the cave itself and the new iguanarium.

The visit inside the cave lasts about 30 minutes and once inside you will be amazed by the beauty of the stalactites and stalagmites, as well as by the ancient paintings left by the Taino civilization many centuries ago. The impressive geological formations with a depth of 25 meters underground, exhibit more than 500 pictographs of great aesthetic and archaeological value. Unmissable is the Water Mirror Gallery, which consists of an artificial lake that reflects like a mirror at the top of the cave to give you an amazing view.

The iguanarium is a refuge to preserve the Cyclura Cornuta iguanas, which are in danger of extinction in the Dominican Republic. There are currently more than 400 iguanas on display, some of them even roam freely throughout the park, which is not surprising to find them calm and tame. Although harmless, we recommend not touching them and limiting yourself only to observing them from a prudent distance.

Once the tour of Cueva de las Maravillas is over, we will return to our bus to begin our trip back to Punta Cana.

This full-day cultural tour will take you back in time as you uncover years of history and culture of the Dominican Republic on a fascinating journey!
