Otavalo Bike Experience | Shaman's Village

Description

Visit the surroundings of Otavalo in a unique way. We will start right from your designated meeting point in town, then it will be a 20-minute drive up to the iconic viewpoint known as El Lechero. Up there, you will have awesome views of the surroundings from the most famous valley of Imbabura province. At the viewpoint, you’ll also be able to see San Pablo Lake, as well as the surrounding volcanoes, such as Cayambe, Imbabura, Cotacahi, and Fuyafuya.

Then, it’s time to get equipped and be ready for an awesome mountain bike experience. On the way down, we will pass by little villages where you can see local people and their traditions. Our first major stop will be at the Peguche Waterfall, the secret waterfall where you will stretch your legs with a 15-minute walk.

Continuing towards the town, we will visit a local art workshop to learn more about the textiles, embroidery, and weaving, an ancient tradition in the community. Here, you will also have the chance to visit hand looms, showcasing the traditional but labor-intensive method of preparing wool.

Next, we head to Iluman, known as the "Shaman Village." First, we will stop at Pelugue Waterfall to enjoy its serene beauty. Upon arriving in Iluman, you have the optional opportunity to partake in an energetic "Limpia" ritual (for an additional cost of nearly $20), a traditional cleansing ceremony to rejuvenate your spirit.

Finally, we will cycle back to Otavalo, concluding our tour at the original meeting point.
